Rolling Hills, Fresh Company

The Borders are full of abbey towns, river valleys and open hills, and life here often moves at a kindly pace. WidowHearts lets widows and widowers in the region meet others who have known a long partnership and feel ready for friendship again.

From Melrose and Peebles to Kelso, Galashiels, Hawick and Jedburgh, you can join free and write to people whenever you like. Meeting in person is entirely your choice, and only when it feels right.

Abbeys, Gardens and the Tweed

Melrose Abbey, founded in 1136, was the first Cistercian abbey in Scotland, and its ruins are cared for by Historic Environment Scotland. In Peebles, Haylodge Park sits on the banks of the River Tweed, with riverside paths and plenty of benches.

About eight miles southwest of Peebles, Dawyck Botanic Garden is run by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and has a larch planted in 1725. Members also join from elsewhere, so take a look across Scotland.
