Highdown Gardens on the western edge of Worthing were created in an old chalk quarry by Sir Frederick Stern and are now looked after by the council, with free admission. Inland near Ardingly, Wakehurst is run by Kew on National Trust land and is home to the Millennium Seed Bank.
