Altamont Gardens near Ballon, cared for by the OPW, has lawns that slope down to a lake and a path through a glen to the banks of the River Slaney. Rhododendron lovers will feel at home there.
Just east of Carlow town, Brownshill Dolmen sits in an open field, its capstone estimated at around 150 tonnes. For a longer ramble, the Barrow Way follows the river past Leighlinbridge and Borris. You can also look further afield to members right across Ireland.
